A flea market find in a pile of rubble. It's now displayed on my office wall as a piece of found art. Submit your guess as to what it was originally by posting a comment below.

It appears to open from either the top or the bottom, depending on which lever you turn sideways, that's why the hindges and handle on top smaller compartment and bottom larger. I haven't a clue!... Some sort of storage? Pie on top, bread on the bottom? Paper money on top, coins on bottom? ..lol..
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but it looks like a mustachioed fellow with a unibrow to me. :)
ReplyDeleteA safe? A rabbit hutch? A cabinet of curiousities?
ReplyDeleteThe best offline guess so far is that this is the lens cover to an antique camera (a big camera, since the piece is about 7 inches x 9 inches). The idea was that the various hinges swing back to let in light. However, that is just a guess (though I've sort of accepted it as correct).
ReplyDeleteA music box? A jewelry box?
ReplyDeleteWe have one of these floating around the house. Is there glass on the other side? My husband uses it as a photo frame. He says that his father who developed his own photos had it among his equipment.
ReplyDeleteNo glass on the other side, but I do think it has something to do with photos. Whatever it is, it's a handsome object and looks like it was handmade.
